Place In The Sun (44:46)
Hiroe Ueda

listened while enjoying chores -- packing for 1.5 weeks in edinburgh, putting away laundry, scrubbing le creuset, tidying closet, moisturizing...

dreamy funky ballady city pop

i love the cover photo
it's getting hard to distinguish the sides bc my walkman has autoreverse

10 tracks 10 bangers
as i'm packing for this milestone trip, the one that goes "sayonara, new york city" (夢追いスナイパー) felt synchronous to my life... wondering but not too curious, i let it play out

many scenes came into view as this tape played on
life is light and bright even... especially... amidst yearning and dreaming
i get plenty pto, there are plenty songs named like "wonderlight" "magical moonlight" "dream chaser sniper"
playful moon
sentimental sunshine
songs that are good for night and day

homemade tape with "目黑" written on the spine

listened while looking at work computer

circus music compilation. i wonder which japanese man recorded this and for what purpose, it's thursday, 30c, and i didn't sleep enough -- my imagination is limited and there are some unresolved confusions i have about my life -- all i know is i just listened to some circus music and my walkman ran out of battery when i flipped the tape.

intrigued by fresh thoughts that come about through experiencing a new medium and resting in the space between what you put on and what you do while you listen. all the hands that touched this tape of unknown origin unknown purpose unknown orchestra. now i'm thinking about circus, clowns, the limits of the body, the performance of playing, the act of having fun, pure fun, demented fun, peaceful fun

The Poems Of William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)

listened while doing sūryanamaskāra a + b

spoken poetry

side one: i like that it says "spoken art library for advanced listeners"
listening to poetry while doing yoga is nice
noticing how the subtlest difference in breathing pattern can change everything, related to how yeats proclaims he shall not read poetry like prose
the grandeur of early 1900s intonation... the seriousness of life

propelled me into somewhat of a flow state before i distracted myself with micro chores, and then started adjusting this page to take .txt files instead of manually typing each entry in the html

i write more when i repeat this routine (yoga + yeats)

side two:

Canyon Lip (12:11 + 15:07)
Talk West

listened while stretching, with agarwood incense, preparing for a self care saturday mostly alone, grateful beyond comprehension

improv electronic + ambient

listened many times, alone, with friends, in morning, at night. i love this one, especially side B

side A - Finally, That River Twists: love this a lot, i like the percussion in the beginning, nutty and natural then the guitar comes in. sounds coming from a mirage

side B - With No Regrets: ominous yet relaxed, like me in samsara. suddenly a siren blares and we recognize it, still relaxed, it's going to be okay in the end, if it's not okay, then it's not the end

Tabula Rasa (28:22 + 26:31)
Arvo Pärt

listened while lounging in my room before work. misty, grey skies, windows ajar, eyes dry but face plump
then, listened while lounging after work waiting for friends to come over. fell asleep to the traffic merged with the performance

neo-classical, contemporary, tape distorts at times, gets stuck when ff/rw, might need a new case

side one - Fratres/Cactus In Memory of Benjamin Britten/Fratres(Cello): playing with volume
a song meant for loud played quietly
a song meant for one played on a system
arvo part center
complexity reduced via pure skill
a moment for exactly what it is
i am shivering
i am afraid
afflicted
curious
and so on
songs for other sentient beings, specifically insects

side two - Tabula Rasa: intense given the name... a blank state is that complicated to reach, need to listen fully again
have a youtube video explaining tintinnabulates open

LOST IN TRANSLATION (??:??)
mixtape by mark

listened while lounging in my room after work

side A: down tempo, heady voices, california, college towns, suburban plaza parking lots, songs that sound like sunset

side B: guitars, mark's improv, oscillating volume (it feels like a mixtape), realizing the limitations of my dictionary for describing music
coarse to fine ways to identify a song: lyrics, melody, genre, beat, speed, feelings evoked...

For Bill Who Will Be 100 In The Year 2062 (25:55)
Tashi Dorji/Bill Orcutt

listened while bleaching brows and getting ready to go out for solo city girl time

unmarked sides, live recording, noise improv

the side that starts with a pang: infrastructure, could be score for the dark knight saga, diy, to be all together in one room on one night for sound

the other side: father, integrating with noise, not remembering life and letting it play on
i will be 66 in 2062
